Alongside regularly conducting his own music, Alasdair has conducted a great deal of contemporary music and standard repertoire in concert and broadcast. He has a great love of opera and the voice and was for a time on the staff at the Opera de Monte Carlo. He has also worked extensively in studio conducting both for dance and film. Studio recordings have included GREENVOE and SCOTLAND'S CENTURY with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and THE LOCH with the Chamber Group of Scotland and CORRYVRECKAN for SYD Dance. In 2000 he conducted his opera ICE with the City of London Sinfonia at the Great Hall of the People's Palace, London. In 2008 he made his debut with the LSO and LSO Chorus at the Barbican conducting his hour-long work TWO SISTERS, A ROSE, A FLOOD AND SNOW.
He has worked with orchestras, opera companies and chamber groups including:the London Symphony Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Group of Scotland, the LSO Chorus, the SCO Chorus, the Platform Ensemble, the St Magnus Festival Chorus and the SoundIventors Ensemble.
The orchestral performance, conducted with real style and flairby the composer himself, highlighted the sheer beauty of the orchestration.
